Planning is for Cowards!!!
The definition of planning itself is simple and straight forward. Planing : to plan to do something. Planning sounds something that is right and should be done for anything that we are set out to do. But if anyone is to ask me what planning is my reflex response would be "planning is something that is done by cowards". But for my this statement alone I might be judged as someone who has a lax attitude toward life but believe me I am not negligent to my life. In fact I am that person who is extra careful about his life and my carefulness has led me to believe that "Planning is for Cowards".
We believe that we are in the age of Information Technology, and the twenty-first century is all about the fascinating new innovations that we have made in the field of computers and information technology. Facebook, helps us connect to people anywhere in the world. With Google we can search basically any piece of information that we want. And yes we are in this age of information technology, and there's no denying the fact. But more importantly, we are in the age of DYNAMISM. Our history suggest that we humans are dynamic and are always driven by a change, for good or bad. This dynamic behavior of human society has been more prominent in 21st century. We are growing the most in this century. Everything is dynamic around us, everything is changing too fast. We have moved from land line phones to mobile phones and the mobile phones themselves are changing too fast. A mobile phone will get outdated within no more than two years itself. Even a Multi-billion dollar company like Facebook is unaware about the future of it's products. With the abrupt change in science and technology we are unaware about what just might happen next. A Brain Implant might be invented within a next few months that might possibly make successful things like google and facebook, a thing of past. And we are not facing this dynamic behavior only in the field of science and technology but in all the other fields. Companies have started to use computer based expert systems rather than human in many of their functional areas. Possibly, All the accounting and auditing might be done by the computers themselves within a very short period of time.
Even our education system teaches us to plan. Our education system wants us to take a certain degree or a course and pursue our career in it but who would be responsible if all the jobs associated with that courses are automated by the computers. I am not trying to imply that, education is bad and we should stop this but what I am saying is our education system rather than making us wise is planning for us. There are only few people that pursue different careers than what they graduated from. So our education system should focus on the Dynamic environment that we have. Change must be integrated in the education system and rather than only teaching the old things, focus should be given on how to best acquire new knowledges and skills. Our education system shouldn't focus on teaching us as how to solve an existing problem that has been already been solved by a great mathematician or economist, but should focus on making us wise enough that we might face any problem that we may face. Only then we will get a true meaning of education that truly prepares us for this Dynamic Century.
It is just futile to plan for in this kind of dynamic environment that we have and I believe cowards that are afraid of change only plan for their future but none of there plans will work because of this dynamic environment that we have. So to thrive forward, we need to be courageous enough to stop planning and be prepared and skillful enough to solve any problem or change that we might face in this dynamic environment.
